Words from Morrissey

31 October 2005

From Morrissey:

I would like to say congratulations to Julia on the new launch of True To You! I know it will be a big success.
We are in the mid-stages of the mixing process on Ringleader Of The Tormentors here in Rome, and it has been a dazzling experience. Tony Visconti has been exceptional, and we are all very proud of the results.
The first single will be released in the second week of February, and the album will follow around March 20th.
Our plan to play Mexico City on New Year's Eve has not materialised - no decent financial offer to make the journey possible, which is sad.
We have moved our Italian and Greek and Turkish dates to February which will be the tour to launch the album.
Please watch this site for more news soon.
I am yours forever, MORRISSEY.

Ringleader Of The Tormentors: New album title and information; Morrissey's description of the new album

3 October 2005

Production on the new Morrissey album has been undertaken by Tony Visconti, who is in Rome with Morrissey and the band. The album should be completed by November 1st, and is entitled Ringleader Of The Tormentors.

Tony Visconti is most famous for production on all of the early albums by T.Rex and David Bowie.

Jeff Saltzman, who was originally named as producer, could not undertake the project.

The album is engineered by Marco Origel, who is from the San Francisco area.

Ringleader Of The Tormentors will be released on Attack early in 2006. Morrissey is delighted with the album which he describes as "the most beautiful - perhaps the most gentle, so far."

Morrissey receives awards from GQ and PETA

12 September 2005

On the 6th of September, Morrissey won a GQ Men of the Year Award. The men's magazine named him Solo Artist of the Year.

On the 10th of September, on the occasion of PETA's 25th Anniversary Gala and Humanitarian Awards Show, Morrissey was honored with the Linda McCartney Memorial Award. PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), the largest animal rights organization in the world, gave Morrissey the award "as a result of all of his hard work for animals." PETA praised "Morrissey's good deeds" — such as the release of the Smiths album Meat Is Murder and its powerful title track in 1985 (a live version of the song was included on the Animal Liberation compilation, a 1987 benefit album for PETA); Morrissey's active support for PETA campaigns in 2002 and 2004; and the inclusion of PETA's "Meet Your Meat" documentary video on the U.S. DVD of Morrissey's Who Put The 'M' in Manchester? in 2005. In an acceptance speech filmed in Rome, where he is making his new album, Morrissey said:

"PETA is changing the world. Twenty-five years old. Onward, onward. It's all fantastic. And I'm so proud to have the award."

Morrissey to begin recording new album next week in Rome; offers and plans for upcoming concerts

24 August 2005

Morrissey will begin recording a new album next week in Rome with producer Jeff Saltzman.

The musicians recording with Morrissey are: Jesse Tobias, Alain Whyte, Boz Boorer, Gary Day, Mikey Farrell and Matt Chamberlain. Matt replaces Deano Butterworth who has decided to stay with Good Charlotte. Morrissey and the band are sad to see Deano go, and wish him well.

Morrissey is considering offers to play in Turkey, Greece and Italy for November, as well as New Zealand and Australia in December. There is also a concert planned in Mexico City for New Year's Eve.

Morrissey's new album will be released on Attack.

IOW statement from Morrissey

28 May 2005

IOW statement from Morrissey:

I have not ever, at any time, agreed to play the Isle of Wight Festival. The announcement that I would play was made by Sanctuary — and it was their error. However, record companies will never take the blame for their own mistakes and Sanctuary's press statement today reflects this.
In truth, I am not at all under pressure with the follow-up to You Are The Quarry — everything is in hand, and ready. However, my contract with Sanctuary ended last year and hasn't been renewed. Hence, no promotional appearances for Live At Earls Court or the accompanying single. Surely somebody noticed?
Secondly, I have NOT parted company with Deano, and I am annoyed that Sanctuary have thrown this in without consulting either Deano or myself. But that's just the way it goes. Call it anything other than what it is.
Thirdly, I have no connection at all with the site called Morrisseymusic.com. It is controlled by Sanctuary and I am neither consulted nor involved.
When a concert is announced in error — as with Japan last year — the inevitable news to follow is that I have "pulled out"; but I can't pull out if I've never been in in the first place, and even though Janice Long kindly announced very early on that the IOW wouldn't happen, unfortunately Sanctuary would not confirm this and this encouraged people to buy tickets.
I am very angry about the IOW, but I can't control Sanctuary. I also realise that, regardless of the facts, people will always blame me for any unfortunate incidents — somehow believing that I control the entire spectrum of human events. In truth, since our closing dates last year in London and Dublin, my personal involvement in anything that has followed has been sub minus zero.
There will be a new signing for the new album, so please wait until you hear the news from my lips. Everything else is just gossip.
love to you from MORRISSEY.
