Press Release For Autobiography

On 17 October 2013, Penguin Classics will publish Autobiography by Morrissey.

Steven Patrick Morrissey was born in Manchester on May 22nd 1959. Singer-songwriter and co-founder of the Smiths (1982-1987), Morrissey has been a solo artist for twenty-six years, during which time he has had three number 1 albums in England in three different decades.

Achieving eleven Top 10 albums (plus nine with the Smiths), his songs have been recorded by David Bowie, Nancy Sinatra, Marianne Faithfull, Chrissie Hynde, Thelma Houston, My Chemical Romance and Christy Moore, amongst others.

An animal protectionist, in 2006 Morrissey was voted the second greatest living British icon by viewers of the BBC, losing out to Sir David Attenborough. In 2007 Morrissey was voted the greatest northern male, past or present, in a nationwide newspaper poll. In 2012, Morrissey was awarded the Keys to the City of Tel-Aviv.

It has been said 'Most pop stars have to be dead before they reach the iconic status that Morrissey has reached in his lifetime.'

Penguin Classics will publish in the UK & Commonwealth and Europe.

It isn't nice and you shouldn't do it

It isn't nice and you shouldn't do it

Congratulations to Prince Charles for banning foie gras from all his functions.
However, unsurprisingly, this most savage and cruel commodity continues to be the favorite "dish" of smiling mother-to-be Kate Muddleton (from whom, in fact, we expect no less.)
Foie gras production is illegal in the UK, yet the ever-so-correct Fortnum and Mason have found suppliers in France who will keep their shelves stocked - possibly with the hope that smiling Kate will wobble in and place an order for her unborn child.
Since Fortnum and Mason are now the only department store in London who are associated with the pitiless atrocity of foie gras, would you please write to them/contact them and exert pressure on them to stop selling such a savage beyond belief "product".

27 February 2013

I was disappointed with last night's Jimmy Kimmel Show wherein our smiling host managed to ridicule depression (70% of Americans have experienced depression according to the National Institute of Mental Health). He then found time to ridicule healthy eating (the obesity epidemic in the U.S. costs $147 billion per year in medical expenditure), and he also ridiculed the notion that animals should be entitled to the possession of their own lives. Furthermore, he found time to jokingly promote gun-ownership - hugely amusing for the parents at Sandy Hook, no doubt. He also promoted his special guests Duck Dynasty - who kill beings for fun.
None of the above issues are, of course, as important as Jimmy Kimmel himself, who has finally revealed his show to have an overwhelming loss of meaning. Tune in and relive the intellectual fog of the 1950s.

Press statement:

Morrissey is thankful for being invited to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live tomorrow, February 26. However, he cannot morally be on a television program where the cast members of Duck Dynasty will also be guests. Morrissey would be honored to play the show, if Duck Dynasty were removed.

Morrissey stated, "As far as my reputation is concerned, I can't take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers. If Jimmy cannot dump Duck Dynasty then we must step away."

Reports that the Staples Center will not be 100% vegetarian on March 1st are playfully untrue. Contractually, all McDonalds vendors shall be closed down, and the only thing burning shall be my heart.

Los Angeles - Morrissey is wearing a unique chapeau in his new ad campaign for PETA: a rescued tabby, who's perched on Moz's head next to the words "Homeless Animals on Your Mind? Spay or Neuter Today."

"Despite the fact that they're incredibly intelligent, animals unfortunately haven't yet worked out how to slip on a rubber, which is why thousands of them are being put to sleep in overcrowded shelters and thousands more are desperately waiting to be adopted," says Morrissey. "Letting cats or dogs have litters is tantamount to shooting shelter animals in the head since it kills their chances of adoption. Please do the right thing and spay or neuter your animals."

Six to 8 million unwanted cats and dogs enter animal shelters every year in the U.S., and roughly half of them must be euthanized because there aren't enough good homes for them. Many more never make it to an animal shelter and are left to fend for themselves on the streets, where they often are subjected to cruelty, are struck by cars, or suffer from starvation, disease, and weather extremes. The solution is simple: Always spay or neuter your animal companions. Spaying one female dog can prevent 67,000 births in six years, and spaying one female cat can prevent 370,000 births in seven years.

Morrissey returns to his hometown of Manchester this week for a one-off gig on July 28 - his only performance in England in 2012 - and will tour the U.S. this fall.

The singer is part of a growing list of musicians - including Pink, Iggy Pop, Dave Navarro, Animal Collective, The Veronicas, Paul McCartney, Chester Bennington, Ke$ha, and many more - who have teamed up with PETA to help animals.

Malacañang responds to Morrissey elephant appeal, tasks experts to check on Mali

BY AMITA O. LEGASPI, GMA NEWS May 16, 2012 11:46pm

Prompted by a letter from English singer and lyricist Morrissey, Malacañang has ordered the Bureau of Animal Industry to evaluate if the Manila Zoo's 35-year old Asian elephant, Mali, should be transferred to a sanctuary.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said Wednesday, "We share the concerns expressed by animal advocates who have brought up the condition of the resident pachyderm. Rest assured, the responsible agencies will be swiftly implementing the order to ensure the welfare of Mali."

Recently, Morrisey took up the cudgels for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Asia-Pacific and appealed to President Benigno Aquino III to send Mali to a sanctuary.

"On behalf of PETA Asia, I ask that you send Mali to a sanctuary, where she would have room to roam and be able to be among other members of her own species," Morrissey wrote. He expressed his belief that Mali suffers from extreme loneliness, boredom and isolation.

Originally named Vishwamali, the elephant was born in Sri Lanka in 1974. She was brought to the Manila Zoo when she was three years old, and has lived in an enclosure since then.

"Mali's enclosure at the zoo is a fraction of the size that her natural habitat would be. A sanctuary would give her the opportunity for enrichment and companionship that she has been denied for many years," wrote Morrissey.

PETA earlier said The Elephant Sanctuary in the U.S. can provide Mali vast roaming spaces, ponds to bathe in, fresh vegetation, foraging activities, and the company of other elephants.

"The facility understands and has experience with elephants like Mali. They also have a history of healing and restoring quality of life to elephants who have become debilitated by years of captivity," said PETA. - DVM/ELR, GMA News
